Zebra Boy Walks Again
9"x12" watercolor, ink & mixed media on hot press acid free paper. Framed under glass with hand made distressed patina wooden frame.
Zebra Boy was made during orthopedic bone surgeries through 2014 - 2017. My hips and legs were reconstructed with metal because of Avascular Necrosis due to HIV medication interactions with steroids. At 36 with my hips were needing to be be replaced. Needing an escape - I created a myth, put myself in it and followed it down the river of my imagination. I followed it through two near death experiences and finally to the point where I could start to learn to walk again. This collection of art kept me going, gave me a reason to try. It may have even kept me alive.
Without it, I would not have had a reason to survive. Never doubt the power of art, it's truly the only valuable thing on earth, and it transforms lives.
